Police uncover cultists’ shrine, arrest suspects during initiation in Lagos

 

A group of men suspected to be members of Eiye confraternity have been arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly using a residence on Halidu Avenue in Shibiri, in the Okokomaiko area of the state, for cult activities.

The police, who said the house belonged to one Mrs. Rosemary Lawrence, who lives on Old Marine Road, Apapa, noted that a shrine, where new members were initiated, was uncovered at about 5am on Saturday.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirming the arrest to newsmen at the weekend, said among the suspects were three brothers – Sunday Richard, 39, David Richard, 33 and Odefe Richard, 29.

She said two other siblings, 34-year-old Matthew Agboroko, and John Agboroko, 30, were also apprehended alongside other suspects – Samson Okpe, 32; Paul Jago 30; Saheed Oriyomi; 32; and 29-year-old David Quenum from the Republic of Benin.

The PPRO said, “Information was received at about 11.30pm on Friday that a house on Halidu Avenue, Shibiri, owned by one Mrs. Rosemary Lawrence, was allegedly being used for the initiation of cultists.

“The suspects met there at their shrine to initiate new members.
“We got information that the gang was initiating new members and we stormed the compound.
